MI Merit Exam

All juniors in Michigan will take the Michigan Merit Exam (MME). The MME is a combination of tests which include: The ACT, a nationally respected and accepted college readiness examination, the ACT WorkKeys, a work readiness exam, and Michigan developed tests in math, science and social studies. It is a Heritage High School graduation requirement that students take the MME their junior year.

Annual Schedule

MME and ACT testing are scheduled during the first full week of March.  The dates will be posted on the school calendar & website.

Prohibited Student Behavior
•         Looking back at a previous test on which time has already been called
•         Looking ahead in the test booklet
•         Looking at another examinee’s test booklet or answer document
•         Giving or receiving assistance
•         Using unauthorized calculators
•         Using calculators on any test other than the Mathematics tests
•         Using any devise to share or exchange information.
•         Attempting to remove test materials from the testing room
•         Using highlight pens, colored pens or pencils, scratch paper, dictionaries, or other aids
•         Not following instructions or abiding by the testing rules
•         Exhibiting confrontational, threatening, or unruly behavior
•         Creating a disturbance or allowing an alarm, phone, etc. to sound in the testing room.
•         Filling in or altering ovals or continuing to write the essay after time has been called on each test. 

Calculator Policy

Examinees are responsible for ensuring their calculators meet MME standards and making sure it works properly. Examinees may not share calculators. They may use a backup calculator if their primary calculator fails but may not use more than one calculator at a time. Calculators are permitted on the ACT Math, WorkKeys Applied Mathematics and Michigan Mathematics tests, but not on any of the other tests. Use of a calculator is optional. All problems can be solved without using one. Any additions to the prohibited list of calculators will be posted at Michigan and should be checked by examinees prior to testing.

Prohibited Calculators

• Pocket organizers
• Handheld or laptop computers
• Electronic writing pads or pen-input devices- The Sharp EL 9600 is permitted
• Calculators built into cellular phones or other electronic devices
• Calculators with a typewriter keypad (keys in QWERTY format)- Calculators with letter keys not in the QWERTY format are permitted.
• Calculators with built-in computer algebra systems- prohibited calculators in this category include:
• Casio: Algebra fx 2.0, ClassPad 300, ClassPad 330, and all model numbers that begin with CFX-9970G
• Texas instruments: All model numbers that begin with TI-89 or TI-92; and the TI-Nspire CAS- the TI- Nspire (non CAS) is permitted
• Hewlett-Packard: hp 48GII and all model numbers that begin with HP 40G, HP 49G or HP 50G

Calculators Permitted with Modification:
• Calculators that can communicate wirelessly with other calculators- completely cover the infrared data port with duct tape or electrician's tape (includes HP38G series and HP48G)

Formula Sheet

A formula sheet that includes all formulas required for the Applied Mathematics test is provided in the Applied Mathematics section of the student test booklet. The formula sheets will be collected at the end of the Applied Mathematics test and will not be used on the Michigan Mathematics test.
