Mrs. Little’s class is definitely ready for Homecoming! 🦅 They celebrated by creating some amazing Hawk art to show their STCS spirit! #EveryStudentEveryDay #HornetPride #WeAreHemmeter"

Beautiful weather for a Homecoming parade!

Waiting for the parade!

Shoutout to the amazing Mrs. Kahl! 🎉 The Creativity Room was her creation and continues to be her passion! She’s spent every prep period and evening over the last two weeks updating it, adding newly donated items to help fuel our students' imaginations. Her dedication to fostering creativity in our Hornets is truly inspiring! We’re so lucky to have her! 💡❤️💙 #EveryStudentEveryDay #HornetPride #WeAreHemmeter

Fifth graders read an informational article about a Tik Tok ban then engaged in a Socratic seminar about it. A Socratic seminar is a discussion that is completely student led. Students share ideas and opinions that are supported with evidence from the text. Students sitting outside of the Socratic circle make observations and feedback to those in the middle of the room. They are the guide on the side. It was fun to watch the fifth graders lead this discussion! #HemmeterPride #WeAreHemmeter

Mrs. Field and Mrs. Weber’s 3rd graders visited The River of Time now held at Johnson’s Pumpkin Farm. The reenactors did a fantastic job bringing their time period to life!

On Thursday, Mrs. Diana Deese, our Dow Science Coach, shared about lab safety and we made lab coats by tie-dyeing t-shirts. Mrs. Field’s 3rd graders loved creating their own designs.

"There’s something special about kindergarten! 📚 Sometimes, all a kid needs is a good book and a great friend by their side. We're working hard, learning, and making friendships that will last a lifetime! ❤️💙 #KindergartenMagic #WeAreHemmeter

What's up doc? I'll tell you what! 😂 These wascally wabbits along with the third graders enjoyed our 'Short & Sweet' carrot harvest from the Roots & Shoots Garden! Additionally, Mrs. Field's class sanoled some radishes, radish pods, and also planted up some Cherry Belle Radishes to take the place of the carrots. We scattered the other half of the bed with a plethora of other radish seeds gathered from last season's radish pods to use as a cover crop for the bed.
The radishes act as storage units for nitrogen over the winter so the N doesn't leach out into the ground water. They will also act as 'biodrills' to keep the soil from compacting over winter. As an added bonus, this cover crop will hopefully supress some of the annual and perennial weeds that love to take over the beds and soak up all the nutrients. Yay for cover crops!
P.S. Most of the kids looked confused when I mentioned Bugs Bunny, sooooo there's that 😂😂😂. - Chrissy Cannon

Should animals be allowed in schools? First graders in Mrs. Eichinger’s class read an article about this topic and wrote their own opinions. After, they shared their opinions with their classmates.

First graders create their version of a dot after listening to The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds.

Friday Night Lights. Go Hawks!

We had a special guest during Art Club today! T Swift was at The Hive!

Mrs. Beird read 30,000 Stitches to some of our classes today, a powerful story of hope and unity. 🇺🇸 Afterward, students had the opportunity to touch a piece of the Pentagon, reflecting on the significance of 9/11. A meaningful way to honor and remember those impacted by this day in history. #NeverForget

Mrs. Kahl, Mrs. Rummler, Mrs. Graham, and Mr. Bailey just completed their first round of training with LEGO Education, and it was an amazing experience! 🎉 The focus was on creativity, collaboration, coding, and robotics, and we can't wait to bring all these exciting new tools and skills to our students. The kids are going to love this so much! #LEGOEducation #EveryStudentEveryDay #CodingAndRobotics

Fifth graders are using doodle notes in science to capture their learning in a fun and creative way! Research shows that doodling can enhance retention of information by engaging different parts of the brain, improving focus, and helping students connect ideas visually. 🎨🧠 By combining visuals with key concepts, students can better absorb and remember what they're learning.

Third grade was flexing their creativity muscles in the Creativity Room today! 🎨 From crafting rubber band bracelets and exploring with kinetic sand to building with Legos, learning to play instruments, and designing with beads – the room was buzzing with excitement and imagination. We love seeing our students dive into hands-on activities that inspire creativity and collaboration! #CreativeLearners #WeAreHemmeter

Not every day you see kids burying underwear in the garden... but that's science for ya! Our 4th grade Hornets are tackling the 'Soil Your Undies Challenge'—they’ve buried some large white undies in the Hemmeter garden to see if our soil is home to enough hardworking microorganisms. If the cotton gets broken down, we’ll have our answer. See you in 60 days for the big dig! #ScienceIsEverywhere #HemmeterHornets #SoilYourUndies

Mrs. Nikki is the Double Dutch Queen! We have the best lunch supervisors! #EveryStudentEveryDay

Mrs. Ode’s first grade PE class is taking on the scarf catching challenge today! These young Hornets are improving their hand-eye coordination while having so much fun!
